Getting a Guest Band

What's a Guest Band?

A guest band is a band that is worn on the wrist of your guest while they are on site in the halls.

When do I need a Guest Band?

You need a Weekend Guest Band any time you have a guest on site that is here after 5:30pm. This includes Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Where do I get one?

Guest Bands are available Friday 6:30pm- 8:00pm in the Lobby. The Duty RA will assign a band to the guest

How long can I have a guest?

Guest Bands are valid for up to 2 nights.

Do I have to stay with my guest?

A guest must stay with their host as stated on the Guest Band while on site. The host is responsible for making sure the guest is aware of the rules on site.

What about Covid?

All guests in the halls must be fully vaccinated. Under red level, no outside guests are allowed in the halls.

Hall Rules

DRUGS

The use, possession or cultivation of all types of illegal drugs and non-prescription drugs by any resident or visitor is strictly prohibited.

The above is in breach of the Residential Agreement. Staff will impose heavy fines, impose sanctions and may escalate to the Director of Student Services office. As a result, the matter will be considered under the University’s Disciplinary Procedures. It may also be reported to the Police.

SMOKING

The Cube Hall is a “smoke-free” zone and therefore no smoking is allowed in the apartments or any area inside the building nor near its entrances. This includes vapes.

ALCOHOL

Consideration must be given by residents consuming alcohol to the needs and wishes of other residents. Behaviour resulting from the over consumption of alcohol that disturbs the peace and privacy of others will result in disciplinary action.

Kegs, mini tankers, home brew kits, funnels and crates are not permitted within The Cube Hall.

NOISE

Residents should be able to live free from unsanctioned loud noise. All residents should be particularly mindful of the noise generated from normal activity such as holding small gatherings, watching movies, playing computer games, returning late at night, or waiting in a common area.

Residents are required to ensure that the noise level from their apartment is kept to a minimum after 10pm, including weekends

The level of noise that is acceptable is at the discretion of the staff in The Cube Hall including Security staff. Residents are also responsible for the noise that guests make.

Residents are not permitted to use large speakers at any time. An example of an acceptable speaker is a small Bluetooth speaker. Music students may store large equipment such as Amplifiers and PA Systems in their room however, they are at no point permitted to use them in the Halls.

GUESTS

Residents are permitted to have guests for short periods of time with the approval of the other residents in the apartment. However, extended visits are not permitted.

All guests must have a guest pass to be at The Cube Hall after 6:30pm. Guests must be recorded by the host resident via our online tool. Residents with unregistered guests will incur heavy fines and/or sanctions.

Hall Management reserve the right to restrict the number of guests in any one unit/apt of The Cube Hall at any time.

Please ensure all other residents in your apartment are aware of the guest staying and have given their approval.

Residents are liable for their guests and any damage they may cause.

A guest must leave the Hall immediately if requested to do so by residential staff/security.

PETS

No pets, including fish, are permitted.

PARTIES AND SPECIAL EVENTS

We understand that many people will celebrate special events such as birthdays and exam results while they live within The Cube Hall. Any celebration that causes disruption to other residents or creates damage or additional cleaning to The Cube Hall is not permitted and will be shut down immediately. Residents should consider using alternative venues if they wish to have several guests at one time as the amount of noise generated by more than six guests generally exceeds acceptable levels.

LOCKS

Residents may have extra bedroom keys cut at their expense if necessary.

DECORATING YOUR APARTMENT

Residents are not permitted to fix anything to the walls or ceilings of the apartments with anything other than brand name Blu-Tak. Pins or tacks are only permitted on the pin boards in each apartment. Fines will be imposed on residents who place pin holes into their walls.

Residents are not permitted to display signs or inappropriate items, including alcohol vessels or paraphernalia, or paint any windows that may be viewed by the public.

DAMAGES

Damage in a bedroom will be charged to the resident.

Damage in an apartment common area will be charged equally between residents of that apartment unless The Hall Office is notified otherwise.

WEAPONS/FIREARMS

The possession of weapons or firearms by a resident or their guests within The Cube  is forbidden. Incidents will be reported to the Police.

DAMAGE OR TAMPERING WITH THE FIRE EQUIPMENT

It is against the law to tamper with fire equipment including exit signs, prop smoke doors open, disable or cover smoke detectors, or discharge fire extinguishers for any other purpose than putting out a fire. Violators will be subject to disciplinary action and possible criminal proceedings which may result in eviction from The Cube. Any fire equipment repair or replacement resulting from misuse will be invoiced to the resident(s) responsible.

False alarm Fire Service call outs will be charged to the resident(s) responsible. Please note the cost of a false alarm can be above $1,000.00.

SOLICITATION

Solicitation is an uninvited or unwanted attempt to make contact with a resident for the purpose of promoting religious beliefs, engaging political views or encouraging the purchase of items or membership. Solicitation is prohibited in The Cube – this includes university groups or organisations.

TAGGING

Tagging is forbidden. The costs of graffiti removal will be charged to all tenants if the person/s responsible cannot be identified.

OPERATING A BUSINESS FROM THE CUBE HALL

Residing in The Cube must be the resident’s main purpose. Residents are not permitted to conduct a business from their apartment or from any area of The Cube.

TRESPASSING

Unauthorised persons will be asked to and must leave The Cube. Any person whose behaviour is unacceptable or who is behaving in a suspicious manner will be asked by residential staff or security to leave. If they do not leave they will be served with a Verbal Trespassing Notice. The Cube staff will report all trespassers to the Police.

ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AND HEATERS/ SPEAKERS

For health and safety reasons the use of private cookers, elements or toasters in apartment bedrooms is prohibited.

All electrical appliances brought into the building by residents must be tagged and tested by an electrician if over 1 year old.
